Range maps for south Asian birds are more accurate since Pam Rasmussen teamed with the Smithsonian Institution to identify birds that live in and migrate through the region. She discovered that the Indian Forest Owlet isn't extinct after all, found several overlooked species, and showed that others probably don't appear in the area. Using sonograms to characterize pitch, pattern, rhythm, and tempo, she analyzed vocalizations that help identify species.
